A labor of love

This loveseat combines the always-popular country look with the hanging swing, which has long been a favorite for relaxation and conversation.

Our plan for this swing is designed for the novice do-it-yourselfer, requiring several straight cuts and a few curved cuts for the heart designs and armrests. The assembly is kept simple, and the swing is suspended by straight chain, so it can be hung from the framing of a porch or patio or from a strong tree. The armrests feature cutouts for holding cold drinks, and the seat is made to hold a standard-size chaise lounge cushion.

Built of redwood for its beauty and ability to withstand the elements, the swing measures approximately 52 inches long by 23 inches wide, with a seat-back 26{ inches high. It's designed to hold up to 350 pounds.

The Outdoor Hanging Loveseat plan, 780, is $6.50 and includes full-size traceable patterns for the heart designs and armrests, along with step-by-step assembly instructions with 15 photos, diagrams and a complete shopping list and cutting schedule. If you're interested in other outdoor furniture projects, our catalog is $3.95. Prices include sales tax, postage and handling. Send check or money order to Steve Ellingson, c/o St. Petersburg Times, P.O. Box 2383, Van Nuys, CA 91409-2383. Please specify plan number.
