The Hernando Beach Yacht Club had its Great Hernando Chili Cook-off on May 15. The restaurants that entered the competition were Ramshackle Cafe, Roger's Concessions, Reef N'Beef Inn, Miss Kitty's Hilltop Restaurant, Pit Boss B.B.Q., A.J.'s Sports Restaurant, B.J. Gator's Restaurant, Amore's Restaurant and Palm Tree Cafe. The contest was judged by County Commissioners June Ester and Nancy Robinson, Judge Jack Springstead and Hernando Restaurant Association president Peter Diulio. The winner of the first place plaque was Amore's Restaurant. The first place consolation ribbon was awarded to Pit Boss B.B.Q, second place to Palm Tree Cafe and third to Ramshackle Cafe. Private contestants winning ribbons were Hernando Beach resident Valentia Webb, first place; Hernando County residents Roma Bigelow, second, and Shirley Fann, third. Twenty-five percent of the profit will go to a boating program for Hernando County youth.
