A man posing as a police officer robbed a 51-year-old man Friday night, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
The man was driving what appeared to be an unmarked police car with red and blue lights flashing from the grille.
Wearing dark pants, a white shirt and a cowboy hat, he pulled the victim over about 10:15 p.m. at the Interstate 75 exit ramp onto Interstate 4.
The man asked the victim for his driver's license and registration, requested that he step out of the car, and then pulled out a gun and robbed him.
The victim was unharmed, and the amount of money stolen was undetermined, Sgt. Andrew DeLuna said.
No one has been arrested, DeLuna said.
The impostor last was seen driving a late-model white Chevy Caprice west on Interstate 4, according to the sheriff's report.
The car could be easily mistaken for a police vehicle, DeLuna said.
Two people were apprehended last fall for posing as police officers on the interstate, but this is the first reported case this year, DeLuna said.
