Although the Senior Division baseball team from West Pasco remains the county's best hope in the District 12 Tournament of Champions, a pair of softball teams from West Pasco still survive.
The West Pasco baseball seniors beat their first two opponents _ Clearwater American and Palm Harbor American _ by a combined score of 22-9 and were scheduled to meet Clearwater National in a 5 p.m. game Saturday.
Clearwater held a combined edge of 16-5 over its first two opponents _ Largo American and Holiday (which was shut out 10-0 in the second round).
Although both quarterfinalists have been getting a large number of runners across the plate, both survived one-run games in the first round.
In softball, the Major Division representative from West Pasco lost 13-1 to Largo American in the opening round and must win four straight games in the losers bracket to remain alive and reach the final.
Hudson lost its opening round game in the winners bracket and was eliminated in the opening round of play in the losers bracket.
In Senior Division softball, West Pasco and Hudson both lost opening round games and thus, were bumped to the losers bracket. The two teams will resume play Monday night.
