New space stamp launched

Stamps with space themes continue to be the most popular with collectors, and the U.S. Postal Service has come out with another colorful and futuristic offering, a $2.90 stamp featuring a space shuttle. The stamp was dedicated June 3 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Among the most requested first-day cancellation ever was a 1969 stamp featuring the lunar landing. Other space designs have included 1993's Space Fantasy commemoratives and last year's joint issue with Russia featuring four stamps highlighting cooperation in space exploration.

First-day cancellations will indicate that the stamp was issued at Kennedy Space Center, even though requests must be sent to the Titusville Post Office.

If you supply the stamps, send your envelopes to Customer Affixed Stamps, $2.90 Space Vehicle Stamp, Postmaster, 2503 S Washington Ave., Titusville, FL 32780-9991. If you wish to have the Postal Service affix the stamps, send your envelopes and $2.90 a stamp to $2.90 Space Vehicle Stamp, Postmaster, 2503 S Washington Ave., Titusville, FL 32780-9992.

Orders must be postmarked by July 2.
