Woman missing after accident

Divers were searching Sunday night for a woman who was knocked off a water scooter in the Manatee River when a boat hit the recreational craft. Another passenger on the water scooter, an unidentified man, was picked up by the boat that struck it. The man was taken to the hospital, and the extent of his injuries was unknown. The accident happened about 7 p.m. Sunday in a section of the Manatee River just north of Bradenton, according to the Coast Guard. Neither of the passengers was wearing a life jacket.

Fire damage

The fire that destroyed the roof of the University of Tampa's historic McKay Auditorium caused $300,000 in damage, Tampa Fire Department spokesman Bruce Savage said. The cause of the fire, which began Friday afternoon after work was performed on the roof earlier that morning, still had not been determined, Savage said.

Teen drowns

PALM HARBOR_ A 16-year-old youth visiting from Pennsylvania drowned Saturday night in a condominium swimming pool apparently after suffering cramps, a sheriff's deputy reported. Jack Daniels of Tunkhannock, Pa., was swimming laps at about 9:30 p.m. when he failed to surface. He was taken to Mease Hospital in Dunedin where he died a short time later, authorities said. Sheriff's Sgt. Greg Tita said the youth was staying at the condo with a friend's parents, also from Pennsylvania.
