Dodgers: When Darryl Strawberry was taken out of the lineup after missing a therapy session for his back, he busted a water cooler with a bat. Strawberry then met with general manager Fred Claire for nearly 30 minutes Sunday before the Dodgers' 2-1 victory over the Padres. "We told him if he doesn't do his program, he's not going to be in that lineup," said Claire, adding it was not the first time Strawberry had missed the pregame regimen since he rejoined Los Angeles on June 6. "That was no big situation last night," Strawberry said. "I've just been frustrated because of all the problems I've been having with my back. It hasn't allowed me to be in the lineup on a consistent basis. I'm accustomed to playing. When you go through that, it's not a lot of fun. My frustration had nothing to do with nobody but myself. I was frustrated at nobody but me."
Cardinals: Ozzie Canseco, the twin brother of Texas Rangers star outfielder Jose Canseco, has retired from the Louisville Redbirds. Redbirds spokesman Tab Brockman said St. Louis placed Canseco on the disqualified list. That will keep him from playing for any other team except St. Louis and could leave the door open for his return.
