Artful approach to a study

Pupils at Dunedin Elementary School learned about art and life on the Mississippi while painting a river scene in April. The project was an example of an interdisciplinary study of art and social studies, led by art teacher Lucy Trimarco, fifth-grade teacher Joyce Dubreuil, and artist Debi Kotovsky, mother of two Dunedin pupils. The children learned about transportation and western expansion in the 1880s, as well as about the work of George Bingham, who painted scenes of the Mississippi River then. Their mural was used as a backdrop for the school's Evening of the Arts Spring Program.
