A Port Richey man has been charged with battering a Pasco County deputy and evading arrest by swimming across a canal Friday night, according to an arrest report.
Jason Rollin O'Dell, 19, of 7411 Mayfield Drive was released from county jail Saturday after posting $1,100 in bail.
He is accused of punching Deputy John Connolly in the chest and slamming a sliding glass door on his knee after Connolly responded to a house party call on Fjord Drive in New Port Richey.
O'Dell then swam away, he later told deputies, because he was concerned about jeopardizing his plans to join the U.S. Coast Guard. He was arrested at his home Saturday morning.
