Six players from Dunedin selected to All-Star team

All-Star team: Six players from the Dunedin Blue Jays were selected to the Florida State League All-Star team Monday. Right-handed pitchers Randy Phillips and Ben Weber, infielders Chris Weinke, Felipe Crespo and Chris Stynes, and outfielder Rich Butler made the squad.

The All-Star team was selected by FSL field managers, official scorers and broadcasters. The game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Saturday June 26 at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg.

Right-handers Jason Hisey and Clint Davis, and designated hitter Michael Cantu from the St. Petersburg Cardinals were selected. Left-hander Mike Juhl, catcher Jason Moler, and infielders Jon Zuber and Rob Grable will represent the Clearwater Phillies in the game.

The All-Stars will be honored at a banquet Friday June 25 at the Stouffer Vinoy Resort. Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Sam Wyche will be the guest speaker.

Duff Brumley (St. Petersburg) and Greg Brown (Clearwater) were selected to the team, but will not be able to participate because they were recently promoted to Class AA clubs.

St. Petersburg 7, Dunedin 1: Jeremy McGarity and John Corona combined on a five-hitter as host St. Petersburg defeated Dunedin Monday night to win its ninth consecutive game. It is the longest winning streak for the Cards in three seasons. McGarity (6-3) shut down the Blue Jays' league-leading offense over eight innings. He had five strikeouts and was helped by the Cards' defense as they turned three double plays. Corona finished the ninth for McGarity by striking out the last two batters of the game. St. Petersburg supplied plenty of offensive punch for McGarity in the third inning behind Dimitri Young's two-run triple.

Clearwater 11, Fort Lauderdale 5: Clearwater designated hitter Jason Moler had two doubles and three RBI to lead the visiting Phillies past the Yankees. Phillies starter John Trisler (6-3) gave up six hits and one earned run in seven innings. Leftfielder Jay Edwards had two doubles and two RBI.
