Editor's note

A group of 44 Lecanto Middle School students left at 5 a.m. Monday for a three-day visit to Washington, D.C.

Accompanied by three chaperones, including Times reporter Joanne Korth, the students, who completed eighth grade last week, will tour landmarks in the nation's capital before they return home Friday morning.

Each day, one of the travelers will write home. Today's postcard is from Wes Stephens.

Dear Mom and Dad,

Well, it sure has been a long trip on the bus. But it's not been that bad because most of us have been killing time by listening to Walkmans, reading books and magazines, playing portable games and just talking. All of us are having fun.

I think the teachers are getting tired of us. We've made a few stops at rest stations and, boy, have we been glad.

I can't wait to get to Washington, D.C.! It's going to be really fun. I hope we get to see President Clinton. I think it would be neat to meet Chelsea!

Wish you were here.

Love,

Wes
