Class honored for hard work

The fifth-grade pupils at Hudson Elementary School recently donated a picnic table with a plaque engraved "Smoke-Free Class of 2000" to the school. The American Lung Association awarded the fifth-graders money to buy the table because of exceptional student participation in the Smoke-Free 2000 Book Cover Contest.

Math programs recognized

The Florida Department of Education has presented awards to R. B. Cox Elementary School and Mary Giella Elementary School for exemplary gains for children in the Chapter 1 program in the area of mathematics.

Kids collect tabs for charity

Sandra Nappi's Pre-kindergarten class recently collected 17 pounds of aluminum pull tabs to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Tampa.

Drafting winners named

The Pasco Builders Association recently held its annual competition in Board Drafting, C.A.D. Drafting, Architectural Model Building and Model Building. Students were encouraged to form teams and complete and submit projects.

This year, Marchman Vocational Center students, Bill Detterline, Tom Mulyck, Omar DePablo and Jeremy Jones won first place in three categories under the direction of teacher Mike Awe. A list of winners follows.

Board Drafting: First place, Bill Detterline, Tom Mulyck, Omar DePablo, Jeremy Jones, Marchman Vocational Center. Second place, Joe Fiorentino, Richard Knudson, Marchman Vocational Center. Third place, Brian Cox, Gabe Emery, River Ridge High School.

Board honors top students

Students from schools throughout the county were honored at the School Board meeting May 18.

The Dreamers and Doers Award went to Danielle Giardina from Seven Springs Elementary School, Jessica Stout from Pine View Middle School and Angela Marie Coll from Ridgewood High School.

PRIDE award winners were, in mathematics, Monu Bedi, Zephyrhills High School; science, Elizabeth Alas, Ridgewood High School; social studies, Jeffrey Scott Powers, Ridgewood High School; writing, Trisha Lynn Schmirler, Pasco Comprehensive High School.

Winners of the Hugh O'Brien Youth Foundation Awards were Frank Lupo, Land O'Lakes High School; Thomas Hutchinson, Zephyrhills High School; Khristina Thomas, River Ridge High School; Beatrice Lee, Pasco Comprehensive High School; Rebecca Hansen, Gulf High School; Virginia Lees, Hudson High School; Allyson Schneider, Ridgewood High School.
