Exploring Oriental medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine works from a different premise than our Western allopathic practice. Many Oriental practitioners believe that health and well-being are governed by the flow of "chi" energy through the body; when the energy becomes unbalanced or the channels for energy become blocked, illness can result. In recent years, Oriental medical practices such as acupuncture and herbal therapy, which are thought to help clear blocked channels or balance the chi energy, have gained popularity in this country. If you'd like to learn more about acupuncture, herbs and dietary therapy, a workshop "Beyond Acupuncture _ Understanding Oriental Medicine," by acupuncture physician Patrick Sullivan of the White Crane Clinic, is 7:30-9 p.m. June 23 at the Tarpon Springs Library, Craig Park at Spring Boulevard S. RSVP, 942-4249. Free.
