Marine Cpl. Ron B. Scott, son of Barbara Scott of St. Petersburg, has received a Certificate of Commendation for superior performance of duty while assigned with Headquarters Company, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, Camp Schwab, Japan.

Completion of training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Lisa J. Henney, daughter of Brenda J. Henney of Howe, Ind., and sister of Mrs. Ronald Burkey of St. Petersburg, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Navy Seaman David Luttrell, son of George M. and Betty A. Luttrell of St. Petersburg, has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 1992 graduate of Seminole High School.


Army Pfc. Paul Jenkins, son of Tim and Shelly Tyler of St. Petersburg, has been promoted to his present rank while assigned to 82nd Airborne Div., Fort Bragg, N.C. He is a 1992 graduate of Northeast High School.

Marine Pfc. James D. Moore, a 1992 graduate of Northeast High School, has been promoted to his present rank while serving at U.S. Army Armor Center and School, Fort Knox, Ky..


Marine Pfc. Justin C. Buck, son of Deidre N. and Samuel Buck Jr. of Gulfport, has reported for duty with Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan. Buck is a 1991 graduate of Boca Ciega High School.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Grant G. Guthrie, whose wife, Julie, is the daughter of Dennis and Pat Nelson of St. Petersburg, has returned aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, based in San Diego, Calif., from a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf as the command ship of the battle group.

Coast Guard Ensign Sean F. Lester, a 1987 graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy of St. Petersburg, and a 1991 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn., has departed aboard the US Coast Guard Cutter Gallatin, based in Governors Island, N.Y., for a three-month European cruise.

Army Pvt. 1st Class Vincent A. Maguire, son of John P. and Petie P. Maguire of St. Petersburg, has been deployed to Somalia in support of Operation Restore Hope. The operation is to provide humanitarian relief to the Somali people in accordance with a United Nations security mandate. Maquire is an infantryman at Fort Drum, Watertown, N.Y. He is a 1991 graduate of Northeast High School.

Air Force Airman Kenneth B. Schneider, son of Richard and Lynn Schneider of St. Petersburg, has arrived for duty at Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, Ga., where he serves as an apprentice avionic systems specialist.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Lynne E. Zane, daughter of Yetta E. Gomer of Gulfport, has taken part in a response to a major oil spill in the Mississippi River near Donaldson, La. The unit monitored cleanup operations conducted by the owners of a tug and barges involved in an accident that spilled 231,000 gallons of oil into the water.
