71 marijuana plants found lead to man's arrest

A Hill 'n Dale man was arrested Tuesday after Hernando County sheriff's deputies found 71 marijuana plants growing in and around his home. Samuel G. Smack of 6175 Sumter Drive was charged with possession and cultivation of marijuana, plus possession of paraphernalia. Detectives searched the property Tuesday afternoon after receiving a tip on Monday. Detectives found plants they said were worth an estimated $71,000 in a bedroom, flower garden and shed. They also found 57 grams of pot, 13 marijuana cigarettes, two scales and a bong. Smack, 47, was not home. He was arrested in the evening, then released from jail on Wednesday after posting $10,500 bail.
