Entry to Uffizi free for reopening

Published Oct. 9, 2005

Art lovers can fly half price to Florence and see Italy's Uffizi gallery free of charge when it reopens this weekend after it was badly damaged in a car bombing May 27.

The Italian Culture Ministry said Wednesday it would not charge admission to the Renaissance art collection Sunday as a sign of gratitude for the many offers of help it received.

Italian flag carrier Alitalia announced it was halving fares on internal flights to Florence and nearby Pisa for the Uffizi reopening.
