Phillies clinch first-half title

St. Petersburg 4-1, Clearwater 0-6: Mark Tranberg pitched a seven-inning complete game Wednesday night as host Clearwater gained a doubleheader split with a 6-1 victory over St. Petersburg. The Phillies clinched the Western Division first-half title. Tranberg won his second consecutive start since being promoted from Spartanburg of the South Atlantic League. David Fisher went 3-for-3 and scored twice and former USF standout Troy Rusk scored twice for Clearwater. In the opener, a makeup for Tuesday's rainout in St. Petersburg, the Cards won 4-0 and snapped the Phils' eight-game winning streak. Reliever Scott Simmons pitched 8 innings after taking over for Mike Badorek.

St. Lucie 5, Dunedin 2: Alberto Castillo drove in two runs with a home run and a single as host St. Lucie downed Dunedin 5-2. Ottis Smith won his seventh game with relief help from righthander Robbie Guzik, who got his fifth save.
