Alternative route

The local stop of MTV's Alternative Nation tour drew 5,500 to the USF Sun Dome in Tampa on Wednesday night for a lively 3{-hour show. And alternative it was; a circus-like atmosphere prevailed with a clown and mime act and colorful balloon drop. Not to mention the Spin Doctors, the Screaming Trees and Soul Asylum (featuring lead singer David Pirner, above). Before the concert, Spin Doctors guitarist Eric Schenkman talked about the enjoyment he gets from touring. "There's a chemistry that comes with (playing live)," he said. "We try to let the songs reflect the day-to-day thing. Different days have different moods, and sometimes that means improvising a little."
