Beachgoers can chill out to live jazz music or reminisce with live Beatles tunes at two free concerts tonight and Saturday night on Clearwater Beach.
Dan McMillion and Jazz from Tampa Bay will perform tonight with their blend of Big Band, mainstream, bop and fusion jazz.
Tonight's concert marks the beginning of the '93 Concert in the Park series at Coachman Park in downtown Clearwater. There will be free concerts in the park from 7 to 9 p.m. every Friday night through Aug. 6.
Dan McMillion has entertained thousands over the years with the sound of his trumpet, flugelhorn and valve trombone. He has performed to audiences at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the Clearwater Jazz Holiday, the Orlando Jazz Festival and several jazz clubs and concert halls throughout central Florida.
The band members in Jazz from Tampa Bay include Jack Steele, keyboards; Lee Abbott, bass; Tim Diehl, drums; Jeff Jordan, saxophone; Steve Gould, saxophone; Cris Clifton, trombone; and Jan Elvira, vocals.
Ghosts from the past will be revived from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday with a performance from "Get Back!," a re-creation of the Beatles that features original cast members from the long-running Broadway smash Beatlemania.
That concert is part of the Sunset Music Series at the Holiday Inn Surfside on Clearwater Beach.
In this tribute to the Beatles, the characters of John, Paul, George and Ringo are portrayed for the entire span of their career.
The performers are Peter McGann as John Lennon, Jack Petrilla as Paul McCartney, Ritchi Ray as George Harrison and Justin McNeill as Ringo Starr.
The Concert in the Park series is sponsored by the Clearwater Parks and Recreation Department, Sound by Maire and the St. Petersburg Times Weekend section. The Sunset Music Series is sponsored by WHPT-FM 102.5.
