DEATHS

J. HERBERT BURKE, 82, a Republican member of Congress for 12 years and former Broward County commissioner, died Wednesday at his suburban Orlando home of heart problems and diabetes. Best known for his political exit, Mr. Burke was ousted from Congress by voters in 1978 after his arrest for being drunk and disruptive in the parking lot of a Dania stripper bar. He pleaded guilty to public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and witness tampering.

LOUISE McNEILL PEASE, 82, West Virginia's poet laureate since 1977, died Wednesday in Malden, W.Va. Her poems, rich in mountain imagery and country dialects, focused on Appalachian life.
