Members of the Brandon Woman's Club recently met for their year-end luncheon and installation of officers at River Hills Country Club.
Twenty-five guests attended the luncheon. The club president's speech referred to each officer and member of the club as flowers that make up a beautiful garden.
Frances McCartney, president, installed the following officers and directors: Juanita Reynolds, first vice president; Sarah Albright, second vice president; Dorothy Evans, recording secretary; Donna May, corresponding secretary; Catherine Badovinac, treasurer; and Ruth Henson, Peggy Poast and Maggie Savich, board of directors. Installed as committee chairwomen were Jessie Brooker, community service; Maggie Savich, rentals; Bessie Montgomery, devotions; Marie Richards, sunshine; Mildred Wenger, hospitality; Agnes Aliegena, telephone; Dianne Robertson, program; Una Barry, historian, and Edith Wyly, public relations.
The club was founded in 1915 and chartered in 1925 under the guidance of then-president Alice Rankin. The club's building on N Moon Avenue was constructed in 1928.
About 35 members meet the first Tuesday of each month September through June. For information, call Maggie Savich at 689-3770.
Women's Guild wins award
Kathy Riggs-Stites, president of the Nativity Women's Guild, announced that the guild's scrapbook was awarded second place in its membership category at the St. Petersburg Diocesan Council of Catholic Women held recently at the Hyatt Hotel in Tampa. Sue Mendola, guild historian worked on the book. Connie McKinnis, a Nativity guild member, received first place for the scrapbook she entered representing the east Hillsborough deanery at the convention.
Members of the guild who attended the convention workshops and dinners are Marge Jones, Debra Seehaver, Sister Constance Arsenault, Janet Moucha, Mary Ellen McCarthy and Lucy Grasso.
Attending the bishop's banquet were the Rev. James Lara, the Rev. Robert Schneider, Diane Brown, Cindi McNiff, Iris McNiff, Kathie Baryza, Margaret Amo, Jill Harrison, Melanie Cleveland, Vicki Stark, Sue Mendola, Kathy Power, Sheila Zendegui, Karen Guggino, Rosemary Walker, Kay Nefille, Barb Kemper, Rose Anne Kraus, Cindy Bergevin, Sandy Daubach, Carolyn Morley, Connie McKinnis, Marilyn Fontana, Rita Gabor, Yolie Shiver, Pat Savoie, Nell Boas, Dianne Kardash, Barbara Thomas and Marie Costello.
One of the highlights for the members attending the convention was a celebration for Sister Constance Arsenault's 77th birthday.
