Westshore women's club gives nurse $400 Spring Scholarship

The Westshore Evening Business and Professional Women's Club presented HuAnn Thompson Griffin with its Spring Scholarship at its May meeting.

Griffin is a registered nurse and attends St. Petersburg Junior College, Tarpon Springs branch. She will attend the University of South Florida in January where she plans to specialize in cardiac nursing.

Scholarship chairwoman Susanne Phillips gave Griffin a check for $400 and a club membership.

The club meets at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of every month. Meetings are in the Royal Palm Room on the third floor of Burdines, West Shore Plaza Mall. For information on attending, call J. Hatala at 886-5415.

Tampa Bay Suncoast Chapter

of Red Cross installs board

The Tampa Bay Suncoast Chapter of the American Red Cross installed its new board officers at its annual meeting and awards luncheon June 8 at the Omni, 700 West Shore Blvd. N.

New officers for 1993-94 are Jill Valenti, chairwoman; Gene Windham, first vice-chairman; Gordon Campbell, second vice-chairman; Gerald Wilder, third vice-chairman; Bob Jones, treasurer, and Roy Harrell, secretary.

Outgoing chairman Van McNeel received an award for his leadership through the "year of the storms." Elections also took place for new board members. They are Tilvon Baker, Bill Butler, Rick Davis, Barbara Donaho, Angeles Ferlita, Fassil Gabremariam, Jerry Knight, Richard Park, Jim Simmons, Roy Whitehead and Mike Willis.

Fred Bullard and Curtis Lyman were re-installed for one-year terms on the board. Steve Dickey, Judy Munson, Jim Shimberg, Barbara Yadley, Mike Zagorac and Harrell were re-elected for three-year terms.

Hillsborough High named tops

in district by Interact Clubs

Hillsborough High School placed first overall at the Interact Clubs' District Convention in May on Marco Island.

The club swept all honors by winning more trophies than any of the other 12 district clubs. Honors included: Dahlia Hassani, Best Club President; Best Community Service Project for "Project Help"; Ron Harris, chairman for Best Display; Vanessa Moss, Amy Messersmith, Jessica Lopez, Jessica Clark and Alyssa Fultz, principal committee members, for Best Scrapbook; Clark for Best Dramatic Performance (talent show). Hillsborough Interact is sponsored by the Tampa Downtown Rotary Club.
