J. Andrew Castorina, eighth-grader at Lecanto Middle School, who won second place in a national essay contest sponsored by the Apple Growers of New York and New England. His essay, "Unlocking the World of Knowledge," will be published in the sponsor's newsletter. He received a certificate and a $5,000 U.S. Savings Bond for his efforts.
Carl Steelfox, who has been chosen as the May Employee of the Month at Surrey Place Convalescent Center. Steelfox is a maintenance assistant and has been employed at Surrey Place since February 1992. He is married and is the father of five grown children. He receives a cash award and a plaque in recognition of his achievement.
Ann Taylor, nursing aide at Sugarmill Manor, who recently received an attendance incentive. Taylor has been employed at the Manor for over a year and has had perfect attendance for the past six months.
At the annual piano recital at Grace Bible Church the following students received awards. Good Progress Certificates: Amy Fisher, Beth Linley, Raquel Perry, Whitney Stokes. Excellent Progress Certificates: Jenny Dalton, Elizabeth Parker, Ashley Riggs. Most Promising Student Pins: Chris Bergstrom, Jonathan Bockhurst, David Chu, Sean Donovan, Jessica Henigar. High Achievement Trophies: Lindsay Bockhurst, Lesley Donovan, Kelley Lane, Suzanne Mizell. Exceptional Merit Trophies: Amanda Bobola, Holly Lane, Traci Riggs.
Winners at the Florida Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festival received their Gold Cups at this time. First Cups for 15 points: Leslie Donovan, Sean Donovan, Holly Lane. Second Cups for 30 points: Chris Bergstrom, Jessica Henigar. Traci Riggs earned her Third Gold Cups for having superior ratings for nine consecutive years.
