For the second straight game, Sean Hamilton knocked in Vince Parisi with the winning run as Dunedin American edged defending champion Dunedin National 4-3 in eight innings to capture the Tournament of Champions Seniors baseball (ages 13-15) title.
Dunedin American, which has six players on the team that won the state Majors baseball (ages 10-12) title two years ago, won five consecutive games in five days, clawing its way out of the loser's bracket. It defeated Dunedin National the last two nights in extra innings.
"The rivalry between these two teams is always intense and both teams always are well prepared for one another," Dunedin American manager Roland Wilson said. "This is always a big battle and the kids fought hard to battle back against a tough Dunedin National team."
With the score tied at 3 in the eighth, Parisi singled and Hamilton followed with a triple to score Parisi with the winning run.
The previous night, Hamilton knocked Parisi in with a single.
Dunedin American actually had a 3-2 lead in the seventh with two-out, two runners on base and the Dunedin National batter facing a two-strike count. But Peter Nystrom stroked a single to rightfield to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
Kris Baker and Hamilton combined to get the win for Dunedin American. Matt Thomas, Brian Connell, Pat Neff, Vic Carapazza and Brandon Key had key hits in the championship game. Others who contributed throughout the tournament included Steve Dimvoski, Steve Nance, Adam Greenfield, Chris Michaels, Joe Restaino and Mike Wilson.
Brian Serata struck out 14 and fired a one-hitter as Cross Bayou upended Seminole National 3-1 in a winner's bracket game of the District 5 Majors baseball (ages 10-12) tournament.
Cross Bayou, which has never advanced this far in tournament play, will play the winner of the loser's bracket final 7 p.m. Thursday at Northeast. A second game, if necessary, would be played on Friday night.
"We're real happy to be where we are at," Cross Bayou manager Bill Serata said. "The kids have really come through and are playing real well."
Brian Serata kept Seminole National off-balance as he struck out seven of the first nine batters in the game. Serata, who has won two games in the tournament, continued to baffle National's hitters with off-speed pitches.
Cross Bayou scored its runs early behind Kenny Danielski's double and a triple by Owen Colton. Earlier, Ian Church scored on a passed ball after walking and advancing a couple of bases on errors. Kyle Craig and Tommy Sullivan had hits to boost Cross Bayou.

Moody also singled and knocked in four runs while Adam Wilzinski, Joey Bednar, Ryan Klee, Kevin Cordes and Palenski had RBI singles. Mark Smith added a two-run single for Seminole American.
Cordes relieved Palenski after the first inning and allowed four hits and fanned seven to get the win.
