Storms bring funnel clouds, some rain

A line of strong storms produced reports of two funnel clouds Sunday over rural Manatee County. Authorities reported no damage or injuries from them. The same storm system dropped rain on Hillsborough and Pinellas counties but generated no damaging winds. The forecast for today, the first day of summer, calls for a sunny day interrupted by typical afternoon storms. Temperatures today and Tuesday will be in the low 90s with lows near 70.

Hickey ranks low on list for Lee County position

FORT MYERS _ None of the five Lee County commissioners listed former St. Petersburg city manager Norman Hickey among their top choices for Lee County administrator, the Fort Myers News-Press reported Sunday. Hickey's attorney had threatened to sue the county for age discrimination if Hickey, 65, was eliminated from contention for the job because of his age. Commissioner Frank Mann had questioned whether Hickey would be willing to work until he was 80. Hickey on Sunday refused to comment.
