Actor's portrayal arresting

Christopher Cotten knew he did a good job portraying a criminal on America's Most Wanted. He found out just how good when he was detained by police Sunday.

"It was quite a shock to find myself in his shoes," the actor said.

Cotten portrayed David Adams, a Tennessee man wanted in connection with fraud and arson cases, in a segment that aired Friday. The blond-haired Cotten wore a brown wig and a moustache for the role.

Two women noticed Cotten at a fair Sunday afternoon and alerted park rangers. Sgt. Jeff DeBusk said the women were positive that the man was the criminal and not the actor.

Adams has used fake identification and disguises to elude authorities, so DeBusk said they had to take Cotten into custody until a photo and fingerprints could be compared.

"When we approached him, he said he was on America's Most Wanted, which led us to believe that maybe it was him (Adams)," DeBush said.

Cotten, a Los Angeles resident, was cleared after being taken downtown to police headquarters.

"They were very apologetic and really quite nice, and I understand even though it was a little hairy for a while," Cotten said. "They had to do what they had to do."
