The Pasco County Veterans Service Office has been selected as the State of Florida Department of Veterans Affairs 1993 County Veterans Service Office of the Year.
The County Veterans Service Division has offices in New Port Richey, Dade City and Land O'Lakes. The staff of five provides counseling and assistance to veterans, dependents and survivors in obtaining entitlements from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and state, county and local agencies.
Susane Scott: talent contest winner
PORT RICHEY _ Susane Scott, local country music singer, recently won a talent competition at the Nashville Palace in Nashville, Tenn.
The Palace is known for launching the career of Randy Travis.
While in Nashville, she taped an audition with the television talent show Be a Star.
Since her return, Scott has lined up performances at the Moose Lodge in Port Richey and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Shady Hills.
Holiday Unit 173: trophy winner
HOLIDAY _ Holiday Unit 173 Junior member Rosezille Boatman received a trophy for Junior Miss Poppy and the unit received the Sybil Buckingham Trophy for the Americanism "Youth Betterment Program" and the Doris Hahn Trophy for "Best All-Around" Americanism activities at the recent American Legion Auxiliary State of Florida 73rd annual convention in Orlando.
Heritage Lake: scholarship winners
NEW PORT RICHEY _ The Heritage Lake Scholarship Committee, made up of Joseph Gagliardi, Connie Smolksy, Ivo Fioravanti and Roger Kennedy, has announced two $500 scholarship awards.
The recipients are Heather Belasco, 18, an honors graduate of Ridgewood High School. She ranked 10th in a class of 338. She will attend the University of Florida in the fall.
Also winning was Rami Cassis, 17, a graduate of Gulf High School, who ranked in the top 10 percent of a class of 300. He compiled a fine record of academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. He plans to attend Pasco-Hernando Community College in the fall.

Kelly Lynn Nowak: graduate
NEW PORT RICHEY _ Kelly Lynn Nowak of New Port Richey graduated from the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y., recently with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Erskine College: scholarships
NEW PORT RICHEY _ Two recent of River Ridge High School in New Port Richey have been selected for Erskine College academic scholarships.
The recipients for the scholarships at the oldest South Carolina denominational college are Michelle Marie Gates and Ann Ferguson.
Miss Gates is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Gates of New Port Richey. She has been awarded an Orene Irwin Byrd Scholarship, the highest given directly by Erskine College. The scholarship is funded by William B. Byrd of North Augusta, S.C., in memory of his wife.
Miss Ferguson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Ferguson of New Port Richey, has been awarded a board of trustees scholarship. This scholarship is awarded through funds appropriated by the Erskine Board of Trustees and is among the highest given directly at Erskine.
The recipients were selected from 250 outstanding high school seniors who participated in competitions during the 1992-93 year. Erskine College is in Due West, S.C.
Sharon Chirichillo: graduate
HUDSON _ Sharon Elizabeth Chirichillo, daughter of Marion Gallagher of Hudson, is a recent graduate of Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash.
Evergreen is a public liberal arts and sciences college with an annual enrollment of 3,400.
Meera Dhingra: Duke program honoree
NEW PORT RICHEY _ Meera Dhingra, a pupil at Berkeley Prep in Tampa and daughter of Rajiv and Ratna Dhingra of New Port Richey, was recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program.
She was invited to attend recognition ceremonies at the University of Florida's Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville.
All seventh-grade pupils invited to the ceremony scored as well or better than the average college-bound high school senior on either the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the American College Testing Assessment.
Charles Decker: master's internship
NEW PORT RICHEY _ Charles Decker, a student completing his master's degree in the rehabilitation counseling program offered through the University of South Florida, will begin an internship with the Neuropsychiatric Pain Rehabilitation Clinic in New Port Richey.
Decker has worked privately for 10 years in the Tampa Bay area providing rehabilitative services to individuals affected by traumatic brain injuries.
Decker will assist in the facility's development of a head injury day treatment program and other services geared toward head injury and vocational rehabilitation.
