The Temple Terrace Spirit under-17 boys club soccer team won its age group at the Southeast Regional Championships last weekend in Jackson, Miss.
The Spirit, made up of standout players from the Tampa Bay area, will play for the under-17 national title in Phoenix next month, on a date to be announced.
The Spirit outscored teams from South Carolina, Georgia, Texas and North Carolina 16-4 in qualifying for Sunday's final. Five different Spirit players scored in in the championship game, a 5-2 romp over Oklahoma-Tulsa Pride.
Spirit striker Scott Pearson, a Chamberlain High standout, was named MVP.
The Spirit is coached by Harris McIllwain.
