St. Petersburg 4, St. Lucie 3: Ed Gerald was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored as the host Cardinals won for the 14th time in 16 games. St. Petersburg scored an insurance run in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Gerald. The Cardinals would need the run because the Mets' Randy Curtis singled to center, scoring Ed Fully. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the second when designated hitter Michael Cantu and second baseman Lorenzo Meza scored on sacrifices by Gerald and Michael Difelice.

Dunedin 9, Fort Lauderdale 4: Rick Holifield hit his team-leading 10th homer in the sixth to help the host Blue Jays halt a six-game losing streak. Dennis Gray (2-6) went 7 innings for the win, his longest stint of the season. Bryan Brown and Emison Soto had solo homers for the Red Sox. Jays outfielder Todd Steverson, who had a two-run homer in the seventh, was added to the FSL All-Star team.

Clearwater-Daytona called: The game between host Clearwater and Daytona was called in the top of the sixth because of a power failure. The Phillies were leading 2-1. The game may resume July 9 before a game already scheduled. The Phillies scored two unearned runs off 30-year-old Cubs pitcher Sherman Corbett after two errors by catcher Adam Brown.
