Armed man robs Waffle House

An unidentified man with a handgun stole money from the cash register at a Waffle House restaurant early Monday morning, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Employees said the man approached the restaurant's counter, propped one foot up on the table next to the cash register and said, "This is a holdup _ I'm serious." He grabbed the money from the register and drove away from the restaurant, which is on State Road 54 at Interstate 75, sheriff's officials said.

The man was described as white, in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 180 to 190 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was wearing blue shorts, a faded orange T-shirt and white sneakers.

Surprise bills reveal

credit cards stolen

A 76-year-old Port Richey woman told authorities that someone stole her Visa card and MasterCard from her purse and racked up almost $8,000 in charges before she realized the cards were missing.

She made that discovery when she received a credit card statement showing charges she hadn't made at Kmart, Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut and several department stores. The first charge was from May 18, and she told authorities she had attended a social function at Elfers Senior Center that day.

The incident is under investigation, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
