Chemical waste collection today

Businesses that generate less than 220 pounds (about 25 gallons) of hazardous waste each month qualify as Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators of hazardous waste.

Those businesses can dispose of chemical waste properly at the Chemical Waste Collection Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Pinellas County Household Chemical Collection Center, 2800 110th Ave. N, St. Petersburg.

Material should be delivered in Department of Transportation-approved shipping containers. Approved containers can be purchased if businesses do not already have them. Fees for disposal will be based on Pinellas County contract rates and are payable upon delivery.

The following items are not acceptable: radioactive waste; biological infectious waste; gas cylinders; gasoline; kerosene; explosives; automotive/lead acid batteries; fire extinguishers; and smoke detectors. For information, call the Pinellas County Department of Solid Waste Management at 464-7720.
