The American Lung Association of Gulfcoast Florida presented corporate awards to volunteers whose efforts were toward smoke-free businesses. Martin Dyckman, associate editor of the St. Petersburg Times, won the 1993 Media Award for his anti-smoking columns. Special Recognition Awards were given to Jan Allen of Patrick Media Group Inc. for donating billboard space for the Christmas Seal Campaign and for Smoke-Free Class of 2000 contest winners and to Jon Hoegstrom, Irene Maher and Rob Schweitzer of WFLA-Ch. 8 for their performance on the Smoke-Free Class of 2000 Celebration Video.
The St. Petersburg Woman's Club recently installed officers for 1993-1994. Bob Meeks of Indian Rocks Beach won the 1993 Jefferson award in tribute to his thousands of hours of volunteer work. Better known as OK Bob, Meeks has worked to raise funds for needy children for the program called OK Kids for 20 years. The Jefferson awards were founded in 1972 to honor the highest ideals and achievements in the field of public service in the United States.
