Army Spec. Joseph R. Whitman, son of Sarah E. Gage of St. Petersburg, has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal at Ernst Ludwigs Kaserne, Darmstadt, Germany, where he serves as a mobile radio transmission equipment operator. The award is given to soldiers for meritorious service, acts of courage or other outstanding accomplishments. Whitman is a 1986 graduate of Northeast High School.

Completion of training

Air Force Staff Sgt. Brenda L. DeWitt, daughter of Cora J. DeWitt of St. Petersburg, has completed the clinical training portion of the Medical Service Specialist career field at Medical Facility, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, Ariz. DeWitt is a 1977 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School.

Airman Joshua Adam Frontel, son of Rick and Debra Cooper of St. Petersburg and Joe Frontel of Marion, Ark., has completed military basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Frontel is a 1992 graduate of Northeast High School.


Air Force Senior Airman Darryl G. Ambler, son of Chris Allen and Don Ambler, both of St. Petersburg, has been promoted to his present rank at Royal Air Force Base Mildenhall, United Kingdom. Ambler serves as an electronics warfare systems specialist. He is a 1990 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School.


Air Force Airman Jason A. Brown, son of Judy K. Brown of St. Petersburg and Joseph A. Brown Jr. of Fort Myers, has arrived for duty at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, La., where he serves as an apprentice air launched missile systems specialist. He is a 1992 graduate of St. Petersburg High School.

Navy Airman Recruit Elliott W. Graham, son of Evelyn and Elliott W. Graham Jr. of St. Petersburg, has reported for duty at Fleet Air Control Surveillance Facility, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville. Graham is a 1990 graduate of Clearwater High School.

Army Maj. Michael I. Roddin, son of William J. and Helen I. Roddin of St. Petersburg, has participated in exercise Team Spirit "93, a field training exercise, in the Republic of Korea. Its purpose is to increase the defensive posture of the two nations' support forces through training in combined operations. Roddin serves the Army as a division public affairs officer.

Army Sgt. Paul R. Rosa, son of Sam W. Rosa of St. Petersburg, has deployed to Somalia in support of Operation Restore Hope. The operation is to provide humanitarian relief to the Somali people in accordance with a United Nations security mandate. Rosa is a squad leader at Fort Drum, N.Y.

Army Staff Sgt. Stephanie A. Rybicki, daughter of Richard W. and Agnes P. Rybicki of St. Petersburg, has arrived for duty at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash., where she serves as a mobile radio transmissions equipment operator. She is a 1983 graduate of Boca Ciega High School.
