This year, West is best

Proline Boats reclaimed the Citrus County softball championship for the west side of the county Saturday, beating Citrus-95 24-15 in the final of the annual east-west clash.

Proline (19-1) was 4-0 in the three-day, double-elimination tournament that paired the top teams from the Citrus County Parks and Recreation Division and city of Inverness leagues.

Citrus-95 edged Inverness' Sports Radar 7-6 in a losers bracket game to set up an all-west final. But Proline's offense proved too potent. Home runs by Mike Roberts, George McKinner and Ted Gehron powered Proline to a six-run fifth inning.

Proline Boats, the regular-season winner in the county parks and recreation league, suffered its only loss of the season to Citrus-95 during league play.

Last year, Inverness teams finished in the top three slots. But this year, Inverness' top-seeded team, Sports Radar, settled for third place.
