Three graduate from academy

Nicole Peterson, Jeffrey Sabella and William J. Cliff III were commissioned as second lieutenants and graduated June 2 from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Ms. Peterson is the daughter of Tom and Claudia Peterson and granddaughter of Martha Malden, all of Largo. She received a bachelor of science degree in history. She has been on the commandant's list for military excellence and the dean's list for superior academic performance. She was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps, the Women's Golf Team and the Ski Club. This summer she is teaching underprivileged high school students in San Antonio, Texas.

She will enter the field of administration in the Air Force and will start training in August at Kenner Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. Then she will be stationed at Canon Air Force Base in Clovis, Mexico.

Ms. Peterson is a 1989 graduate of Seminole High School.

Sabella, son of Jack and Joyce Sabella of Clearwater, graduated with a 3.0 grade point average and received a bachelor of science degree in history with a minor in Spanish. He has been on the dean's list for superior academic performance and played soccer all four years for the Falcons. He will return for duty at the academy until early next year, when he will begin Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi.

Sabella graduated in 1989 from Jesuit High School.

Cliff, son of Mike and Alice Cliff of Clearwater, served as the executive officer during his senior year and will receive additional training as a maintenance officer at Sheppard Technical Training Center in Wichita Falls, Texas. Later, he will report to Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas. Cliff is a 1989 graduate of Garrett High School in Charleston, S.C.

Peterson, Sabella and Cliff were part of the academy's 35th graduating class.

East Lake graduate

wins service award

Gina Ottomanelli, daughter of Elaine J. Ottomanelli of Palm Harbor, was selected as the student recipient of the Clearwater Junior Woman's Club's 1993 Community Service Award.

Ms. Ottomanelli was nominated by the Rev. Randall Evans for her volunteer work with the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Students at East Lake High School, and for her mission work in Belize.

Ms. Ottomanelli graduated June 10 from East Lake High School and left June 11 on a mission trip to Jamaica with a youth group from her church.

Spring Hill man is

"outstanding lobbyist'

Millikin University senior Kevin Mulford was voted outstanding lobbyist in a recent Intercollegiate Model Illinois Government program in Springfield, Ill.

Mulford, a political science major, served as head lobbyist during the four-day event in which Millikin's 25-member delegation received the Outstanding Large Delegation Award.

Mulford is a member of the James Millikin Scholars honors program, the Millikin University Political Affairs Council and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.

He is the son of Floyd and Marsha Mulford of Spring Hill, and a 1989 graduate of East Lake High School.

Military news

Marine Pfc. Craig S. Bettis, a 1987 graduate of Clearwater High School, has completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Training Center, Parris Island, S.C., and Combat Engineer Training at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Bettis is the son of Raymond and Cathrine Bettis of Clearwater. He and his bride, Laura, will be stationed at Camp Lejeune.
