5,000 a day the healthy way

Here is a 5,068-calorie day's menu for a defensive lineman, low in fat and high in fruits and vegetables, from Heidi Skolnik, New York Giants nutrition consultant.

Breakfast: 1 orange; 4 cups cereal with raisins; 2 cups skim milk; 1 banana.

Morning snack: 1 large bagel; 1 teaspoon butter.

Lunch: 2 cups tossed salad; 3 ounces Swiss cheese; 1 sliced tomato; 1 teaspoon butter; 1 large bagel; 2 tablespoons salad dressing; 1 large peach.

Afternoon snack: 4-ounce bag pretzels; 1 apple; 1 cup low-fat yogurt.

Dinner: 2 chicken breasts; 1 cup marinara sauce; 1 cup broccoli; 2 cups tossed salad with 5 olives, carrots, stringbeans and cauliflower; 3{ cups Spanish rice; 1 cup cantaloupe.
