Brown: "no chance' for LSU in NCAAs

Published Oct. 6, 2005

LSU coach Dale Brown conceded Friday that the Tigers have "no chance" of earning an 11th consecutive NCAA tournament berth without winning the Southeastern Conference.

"If I were the selection committee, I wouldn't take us," Brown said. "I would think to go, we'd have to win it. We're playing the rest of this (regular) season for an NIT bid. The NCAA is out of the question right now."

The statement is not all that surprising, considering that LSU (11-12, 5-8 SEC) is in danger of finishing below .500 for the first time since 1976. But it is the first time that the exceedingly optimistic Brown has spoken pessimistically about the team's post-season chances.
