On Thursday, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Women will sponsor a "Quiet Day" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The group encourages worshipers to join in the day of prayer and meditation as part of the Lenten commitment. The Rev. Tanya Beck will be the facilitator. Beck is the founder of Pilgrimage, an Episcopal center for spiritual development in Clearwater. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch. St. Andrew's is at Deltona Boulevard and Founder Road.
Local seamstresses shine in state fashion show
The Florida State Fashions by Floridians Show was held Feb. 12 at the Florida Expo Park in Tampa. Hernando County seamstresses won a fair share of top awards. First-place winners included Mary Stepina, Brooksville, professional category; Andrea Stevenson, Brooksville, designer category; Karen Warren, Spring Hill, sewing for others category; and Agnes Regnaud, Spring Hill, sewing for others. Second-place winners included Judy Thornton, Brooksville, professional, and Laura Warren, Spring Hill, sewing for others. Winners of third-place awards in the home sewers category included Margaret Maloof, Ashley Wilson, Lakesha Burnett, and Elsie Burnett, all of Brooksville.
