Tunsil scores 29 in Iowa comeback win

14 Iowa 63, Michigan St. 56: Former Lakewood High star Necole Tunsil scored 29 points Friday night at East Lansing, Mich., and Iowa rallied from an eight-point deficit in the second half. Michigan State (11-11, 6-7 Big Ten) led 37-29 with 15:30 left, but the Hawkeyes (17-5, 10-4) went on a 12-8 run to cut it to 47-45. With 5:14 to play, Tunsil hit three free throws for a 51-50 Hawkeyes lead. Iowa never trailed again.

Tanya Place led Michigan State with 24 points, and Kisha Kelley had 13 points and a team-leading 13 rebounds. Antonia Macklin added 12 points for Iowa.

Marshall: Former Marshall forward Tyrone Phillips was in satisfactory condition after being shot in a dispute, said police in Charleston, W. Va. Phillips, 22, of Huntington, was shot several times in the lower body after an argument at a Charleston housing development, police said. Marshall University is about 55 miles west of Charleston. The former Los Angeles prep star briefly played pro basketball in France after the 1992-93 college season.
