Around the league

Stars: Mike Modano suffered a concussion in Saturday night's victory over the New York Rangers. Trainer Dave Surprenant said Sunday he expects the Stars to be without their leading scorer for a week to 10 days.

Kings: Team spokesman Scott Carmichael said Saturday that club owner Bruce McNall's deal with IDB Communications executives Joe Cohen and Jeffrey Sudikoff is expected to close within two weeks. Carmichael was responding to a Toronto Globe and Mail report that said the parties signed a deal last Tuesday in which McNall sold 70 percent of the team and becomes managing general partner. But the Los Angeles Daily News reported that McNall will maintain "equity control" _ at least 51 percent. Reports have pegged McNall's return from the sale at $60-million.
