Irene Brendke turned 100 on Feb. 13.
Now a resident of Forest Glen Adult Care Lodges in New Port Richey, she was born Feb. 13, 1894, in Detroit. Brendke said that she is a second-generation native of Detroit and her family's third and fourth generations were born in Detroit, too.
She has lived in Germany and France and traveled in Europe with her husband when he was employed by General Motors.
In a word for this generation, she said, "Children need a good foundation on which to base their lives. Live right, be honest." Brendke said these qualities come from a proper home training and example.
