Murder confession

A 12-year-old girl in Cincinnati has confessed to committing murder when she was only 3. The girl turned herself into police Saturday so that she could get treatment. Though she is charged with murder, the girl likely will not face a prison term, police said.

The girl, whose name was not released, admitted to killing her cousin, Lamar Howell, when he was 13-months old. Hamilton County officials had originally determined that the boy accidentally drowned in a bucket of bleach and water while playing with the girl July 22, 1984. Police would not discuss the girl's motive for the killing or for coming forward nearly a decade later. Police Sgt. Bob Disbennet did say that being charged will get the girl into the juvenile justice system where she could get counseling.

Because she will be charged as a juvenile, a judge will have discretion in handling the case.

A hearing is scheduled for today.
