An 11-year-old boy was killed Monday when he and his brother tried to beat an Amtrak train across the tracks near their home, police said.
Warith Bahir was hit and killed at the crossing at Interlachen Parkway, between Fern Road and Memorial Boulevard, about 7 p.m., police said.
He and his brother, Rasoul Bashir, 13, were running north along Interlachen Parkway, heading for their home at 1531 Holly Road, police said.
The train was eastbound about 70 mph, traveling from Tampa to Orlando. The train resumed its trip about 9:25 p.m.
