FSU champions to get Exchange Club award

The Exchange Club of West St. Petersburg will sponsor the annual Makala Scholarship Awards Banquet on March 15 at Las Fontanas Restaurant, 15481 49th St. N, near Clearwater.

Social hour begins at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Bobby Bowden, coach of the Florida State University football team, the 1993 national college football champions. Bowden will receive a trophy for the Florida State Seminoles' win over the University of Florida Gators.

The trophy, an ancient carving of the Seminole Indian god Makala fighting a large alligator, was first awarded to the winner of the Florida/Florida State game in 1958.

The banquet also will honor the All-City Academic Football Team and Cheerleading Squad for 1993-94.

Tickets are $20, and proceeds will go to the Suncoast Exchange Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

For tickets, call Bob Melby at 867-4191 or 381-6284.
