Gibbs boys forfeit 3 wins in basketball; player ineligible

The Gibbs High boys basketball team lost three more games without stepping on the court. The Gladiators must forfeit three wins because an ineligible player dressed out for the team, according to Gibbs athletic director Patricia Lavoy.

The player was ineligible academically, Lavoy said, and played a total of "about one minute" in seven games. The Gladiators' official 1993-94 record becomes 15-14.

One of the forfeits is the Jan. 7 game at Boca Ciega, won by Gibbs 78-69. Lavoy couldn't confirm the other teams forfeited to.

The forfeits did not affect Gibbs in the playoffs. The Gladiators won the district title and reached the regional championship, losing to Boca Ciega 63-58 last Saturday.
