Beginning today, AAA Auto Club South will help area law enforcement agencies promote the Combat Auto Theft program and kick off Auto Theft Prevention Month. The organization will unite with Pinellas and Hillsborough law enforcement agencies for the first time in an effort to register new program members. In the CAT program, motorists register their vehicles with local law enforcement agencies, then attach special stickers to the left side of rear windows. If a car registered in the program is seen on the road between 1 and 5 a.m., which are prime auto theft hours, law enforcement officials can stop the vehicle and question its occupants. For information, call the Pinellas sheriff's Crime Prevention Unit at 587-6361, or Cindy Sharpe at AAA Auto Club South, 289-5859.
