Pupil exhibits '94 champion steer

John Glavich, a pupil at Pasco Middle School, was the exhibitor of the 1994 Grand Champion Steer at the Pasco County Fair. The Angus crossbred market steer weighed in at 1,060 pounds and can produce enough meat for 2,000 hamburgers.

John spent six months feeding, training, cleaning and grooming the steer. When he bought the steer from B and B Farms in San Antonio, it had just been weaned from a cow and weighed 535 pounds.

John also was the third-place winner of the Pasco County Steer Show Academic Achievement Award for maintaining good grades throughout his project.

In addition, John won the belt buckle award for Steer Show Rookie of the Year, which is presented to the most outstanding first-year steer exhibitor.
