Michelle Lacey, a fifth-grader at Citrus Springs Elementary School, won the Fifth Grade Citrus County Spelling Bee on Thursday when she correctly spelled the word "audience." Corey Milliord of Pleasant Grove Elementary placed second, and Shauntrell Nelson of Crystal River Primary School placed third.
Lynette DeVaughn and Nathaniel Hartley have been named Students of the Month for January by Crystal River High School and West Citrus Elks Lodge 2693. Lynette and Nathaniel are seniors at Crystal River High. Lynette has been active in the National Honor Society, student government, varsity basketball and varsity volleyball. She has a 3.76 grade point average and is an All-Gulf Coast Conference volleyball and basketball player. Lynette plans to attend college and major in physical therapy. Nathaniel has played varsity football and is a member of Naval Junior ROTC and the National Honor Society. He has a 3.6 grade point average and has received numerous academic honors. Nathaniel wants to study marine science and oceanography.
Kimatha Wolfley and Phong Chau have been named Students of the Month for January by Lecanto High School and West Citrus Elks 2693. Kim and Phong are seniors at Lecanto High. Kim has been active with varsity cheerleading, National Honor Society, the math and Spanish clubs, Interact, and the Key Club. She has a 3.85 grade point average and has received numerous academic honors. Kim plans to attend the University of Florida and major in physical therapy. Phong has been captain of the school's soccer team and has participated in track and baseball. He is a member of National Honor Society and the math club. Phong has a 3.72 grade point average and has received numerous academic honors and awards in biology and art. Phong also has been an all-conference soccer player. He plans to attend college and major in criminal justice.
Mark Tillman, a graduate of Crystal River High School, has been named to the dean's and president's lists at the University of Florida for the fall semester. Mark is a senior majoring in biomedical engineering.
