Patients moved after chemical leak

Several patients at Seven Rivers Community Hospital were moved from their rooms last Wednesday after a hose in an equipment washer leaked. About a half gallon of Cidex, a disinfectant used in sterilizing instruments, leaked onto the carpet, said hospital spokeswoman Dorothy Linton. Linton said some effects of the cleaning agents are strong smell, irritation of the eyes and nausea. Linton said there are no long-term effects from the chemical.

Roofer charged with unlawful dumping

CRYSTAL RIVER _ A Crystal River roofer was charged Monday with unlawfully dumping more than 500 pounds of roof shingles, pallets and household trash onto a remote road. Ronald Scott Parker, 28, of 9310 N Perseus Ter. was arrested after sheriff's investigators searched the pile of trash on Bluebell Drive in Crystal River and found canceled checks with his name on them. Police say Parker admitted to dumping the trash and was released on his own recognizance.

Fund-raisers to help pay medical bills

INVERNESS _ Friends of Inverness resident Edwina "Mickey" Wagner, who has no medical insurance, will hold several fund-raisers to help pay medical bills for her cancer treatment. The first of the events, all of which will occur in Inverness, will be a fun day from 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday at the Eagles Aerie 3992, 8733 E Gulf to Lake Highway. There will be games, food and entertainment. A yard sale will be held beginning at 9 a.m. March 19 in the Wal-Mart parking lot on State Road 44. Saleable items are needed. Also planned is a car wash April 2 and 3 at AmSouth Bank, State Road 44. Monetary donations may be sent to: Mickey's Benefit Fund, AmSouth Bank, 2875 E Gulf to Lake Highway, Inverness, FL 34452.
