14 Syracuse 71, Miami 69: Lawrence Moten's three-point play with 42 seconds left helped the Orangemen (20-5, 12-5 Big East) keep the Hurricanes (7-18, 0-17) winless in the conference. Miami's Stevie Edwards missed an off-balance shot as the shot clock wound down in the final 10 seconds, and Steve Frazier's 10-footer with two seconds left bounced off the rim. Miami has not won since beating Florida Atlantic on Jan. 4. Its last Big East win was over Villanova on March 6, 1993.

N.C.-Wilmington 84, Florida Atlantic 66: Darren Moore scored 17 points and the host Seahawks (17-9) shot 71 percent in the second half against the Owls (3-24).

Black coaches, NCAA meet

WASHINGTON _ The Black Coaches Association and the NCAA, with an assist from federal mediators, spoke by conference call for 2{ hours. None of the four coaches (BCA executive director Rudy Washington of Drake, John Thompson of Georgetown, John Chaney of Temple and George Raveling of Southern Cal), five NCAA leaders and three mediators would say what was discussed.
